DuPont™ Froth Pak professional closed cell spray foam and Great Stuff Insulating Foam sealants are ideal for improving the energy efficiency of your home.  Sealing out air and moisture from a home is key to reducing energy costs and improving the comfort level. There are so many areas in homes, especially older homes, where air, moisture, even insects and rodents find their way into your home.  Some common areas of application are around the rim joists and sill plate of your home, windows and doors (areas around windows and doors usually have fiberglass insulation stuffed around the window or door frame and this is an area where a lot of air infiltration can happen). Other possible entry points for air and moisture are: around attic hatches, dryer vents, outdoor faucets, cracks and separations in foundation wall/basement floor etc.

The DuPont™ Great Stuff products come in retail and Professional size cans.  Both product types are one component polyurethane foam insulating sealants that cure with air and moisture exposure.  Make sure that the great stuff foam is applied at appropriate temperature and humidity conditions for best results.

Retail cans refer to cans with a plastic straw applicator attached.  These size cans can be appropriate for very small jobs but foam placement and control of bead size can become a challenge.  Furthermore you must plan well ahead on where you will use these cans as once the foam sets up in the straw it is difficult to continue using whatever foam remains in the can.  From our own experience, and those of our customers, it is clear that the PRO size foam cans work best for small and medium size jobs.

The PRO cans must be installed on a foam gun.  The foam gun allows one to control the flow and bead size of foam and most importantly allows the user to continue using the foam can at a later date as long as the foam can remains on the gun.  As long as the tip of the foam gun is cleaned shortly after use and adjustment knob is closed completely you will be able to use the can weeks later.  Make sure that the foam can has been properly installed on the foam gun.

DuPont™ Great Stuff Gap & Crack PRO cans are very popular for the DIY'er and contractor.  The material is great for many of the above applications and is classified as a Fireblock Sealant.  Its Bright orange color indicates to building inspectors that it is a Fireblock Sealant.

DuPont™ Great Stuff Window and Door sealant is not rated as a Fireblock Sealant and is most often used around window and doors prior to sheet rock installation.  The window door product is a low expansion foam used around window and door jams to prevent bowing and flexing of the wood frame or window/door.  The Gap and Crack product has much larger expansion and is not suited for this application.  The foam color is light yellow/cream.

DuPont™ Froth Pak Foam Insulation and Foam Sealant kits make foam through a chemical reaction when mixing Part A and Part B.  Each Froth Pak kit consist of an A component (Commonly referred to as Isocyanate) a B component (referred to as Polyol) and a hose and spray gun specially formulated to work with the Froth Pak.  The foam is produced by having the A and B components run through a static mixing element in the dispenser gun to ensure the two components are mixed properly.  The resultant product is a polyurethane foam that cures tack free in less than one minute.
