BioStop Firestop Caulk
What's the best way to stop a fire? Never let it start to begin with. Fire needs a mix of Fuel, an Ignition Source and Oxygen to burn. Take away one of these and fires can't survive. Unfortunately where we live and work all 3 are usually available.
What next? Active Fire Suppression. This means Fire Extinguishers, Sprinklers, and the Fire Department. Extinguishers run out; Sprinklers can malfunction; and it takes time for Fire Fighters to get there.
What's left? Passive Fire Containment otherwise known as Compartmentation. A building is divided up into compartments which are separated by fire resistant barriers. The fire resistant barriers keep fire, smoke and gases from spreading quickly and allow people time to exit the area safely. The problem with passive containment is we like to punch holes through those fire resistant barriers. Smoke, hot gases and flame use those gaps to easily travel to adjacent spaces. Firestop Products fill those holes and restore the fire rating of the whole wall (or assembly) to the design rating that the engineers intended.
What is a Firestop? A Firestop is a fire protection system made of various components used to seal openings and joints in fire-resistance rated wall or floor assemblies. Firestops are designed to restore the fire-resistance of these structures, and impede the spread of fire by filling openings with fire-resistant materials.
