Description

Metacaulk® 7" x 7" Firestop Putty Pads are moldable, non-curing, intumescent fire-rated materials designed to help maintain the integrity of fire-rated wall assemblies. When exposed to high temperatures, the material expands to form an insulating char that helps restrict the spread of flames, smoke, hot gases, and water through electrical box openings and penetrations.

These single-component pads are applied by hand with no mixing or special tools required. Designed for use with metal and non-metallic electrical boxes, conduit, EMT, and cabling applications, Metacaulk Putty Pads are ideal for commercial, institutional, and residential construction where maintaining fire-resistance ratings is critical.

Features & Benefits

  • Intumescent Fire Protection: Expands when exposed to heat; forms a protective insulating barrier during a fire event.
  • Non-Curing & Re-Enterable: Remains moldable; allows for future modifications or cable additions without hardening.
  • Simple Installation: Hand-applied; no tools or mixing required; easy to cut and shape around conduit and wiring.
  • Clean & Safe Formulation: No asbestos fillers; no solvents; no hazardous ingredients.
  • Sound Control Performance: STC rating of 60 for putty pads; supports sound attenuation in rated wall assemblies.

Application Details

Surface Preparation: Ensure penetrating items are securely anchored. Clean surfaces of dust, dirt, and oil prior to installation.

Pad Installation:

  • Remove liner from one side of pad.
  • Align and adhere to one side of the electrical box, partially overlapping the stud.
  • Wrap pad around edges and press firmly onto top, bottom, and sides of the box.
  • Cut slits as needed to fit around conduit or cables.
  • Trim excess material at corners and press firmly to ensure full contact.

If wallboard is already installed, pack putty into any gaps between the box and gypsum board. If wallboard will be installed after pad placement, overlap the front edge of the box to allow compression when drywall is secured.

Installation must follow applicable UL listed system designs and manufacturer guidelines.
