Description

Metacaulk 1200 Firestop Sealant Metacaulk 1200 is a professional-grade elastomeric firestop sealant designed for sealing construction joints, gaps, voids, and penetrations in commercial and residential building assemblies. Available in multiple application grades, this water-based fire rated sealant provides long-lasting flexibility while helping prevent the spread of flames, smoke, hot gases, and water during fire conditions.

The 5 gallon pail format is ideal for larger projects requiring spray, brush, trowel, or bulk caulk application methods. Metacaulk 1200 cures into a durable elastomeric membrane capable of accommodating dynamic joint movement while maintaining an effective smoke and fire seal. It is suitable for vertical and horizontal applications including expansion joints, curtain wall perimeters, top-of-wall joints, control joints, and acoustical sealing applications.

Tested to ASTM E1966 (UL 2079) and ASTM E814 (UL 1479) standards, Metacaulk 1200 systems achieve up to 3-hour and 4-hour fire ratings depending on assembly design.

Features & Benefits

  • Fire Rated Protection: Designed to help prevent the spread of flames, smoke, hot gases, and water through construction joints and gaps during fire conditions.
  • Flexible Elastomeric Performance: Cures to a flexible elastomeric membrane suitable for areas exposed to vibration, movement, and dynamic joint expansion.
  • Multiple Application Methods: Can be sprayed, brushed, troweled, or applied with a caulking gun depending on project requirements.
  • Ideal for Large Commercial Projects: 5 gallon pail packaging helps improve efficiency and reduce downtime on large-scale applications.
  • Water-Based Formula: Low odor, water-based formulation allows for easier cleanup and VOC compliant installation.
  • Excellent Smoke & Acoustic Seal: Provides effective smoke sealing while also functioning as an acoustical sealant for wall and floor assemblies.
  • Freeze-Thaw Stable: Designed to withstand freeze-thaw cycles for dependable storage and performance.
  • Paintable Finish: Can be painted after curing for a clean finished appearance.
  • Mold Resistant Protection: Protected against mold growth in both wet and dry stages with incorporated biocides.
  • UL & ASTM Tested: Tested to UL 2079, UL 1479, ASTM E1966, ASTM E814, ASTM E90, and ASTM E119 standards.

Application Details

Ensure all joints and openings are properly prepared and packed with the appropriate backing material according to the tested firestop system design. Substrates should be clean and free from loose debris, dust, oils, or contaminants prior to application.

Metacaulk 1200 may be:

  • Applied directly from a caulk gun
  • Brushed or troweled from the pail
  • Installed using approved airless spray equipment

For spray applications, recommended equipment should provide a minimum working pressure of 2500 PSI with a recommended spray tip orifice range of 0.015" to 0.025".

General Application Steps

  1. Prepare joint opening and install backing material if required.
  2. Apply sealant to required thickness per tested assembly design.
  3. Tool or smooth material as necessary.
  4. Allow product to cure fully before exposure to service conditions.
  5. Clean tools and equipment with warm water before material cures.
