Description

Sikadur®-22 Lo-Mod FS is a professional-grade, fast-setting, low-modulus epoxy binder designed for skid-resistant broadcast overlays, epoxy mortar systems, concrete patching, and protective resurfacing applications. This 100% solids, moisture-tolerant epoxy resin provides excellent strength development, fast return-to-service times, and strong adhesion to properly prepared concrete and steel surfaces.

Its medium-viscosity, self-leveling formulation allows for efficient application in broadcast overlay systems while also serving as a durable binder for epoxy mortars and repair materials. Sikadur®-22 Lo-Mod FS is commonly used in bridge deck overlays, parking structures, industrial floors, ramps, loading areas, and other demanding traffic-bearing environments requiring long-term durability and abrasion resistance.

Designed for professional use, this two-component epoxy system features a convenient 1:1 mix ratio by volume and complies with ASTM C-881 Type III, Grade 1, Class C standards.

Features & Benefits

  • Fast-Setting Formula: Designed for rapid strength development and quick turnaround times, helping minimize downtime on critical repair and overlay projects.
  • Moisture-Tolerant Performance: Can be applied to damp concrete surfaces and tolerates moisture exposure before and after cure for improved jobsite flexibility.
  • Ideal for Broadcast Overlay Systems: Medium-viscosity, self-leveling consistency allows for smooth application and proper aggregate embedment in skid-resistant overlay systems.
  • Excellent Adhesion to Concrete & Steel: Provides strong bond strength to properly prepared substrates for durable long-term performance in traffic-bearing applications.
  • High Abrasion Resistance: Helps withstand heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic, making it ideal for industrial flooring, bridge decks, ramps, and parking structures.
  • Low-Modulus Flexibility: Engineered to provide enhanced flexibility compared to rigid epoxies, helping accommodate substrate movement and thermal cycling.
  • 100% Solids Epoxy System: Solvent-free formulation delivers durable performance with low VOC content under 20 g/L.
  • Convenient 1:1 Mix Ratio: Easy-to-measure equal-part mixing simplifies field application and reduces mixing errors.
  • Suitable for Epoxy Mortars & Patching: Can be combined with oven-dried aggregates to create high-performance epoxy mortars for patching, overlays, and repair work.
  • Professional-Grade Infrastructure Solution: Successfully used in high-friction surface treatment (HFST) and demanding transportation infrastructure applications.

Application Details

Surface Preparation

Substrates must be clean, sound, and free of contaminants including dust, grease, curing compounds, coatings, and standing water. Concrete should be mechanically prepared by shot blasting or equivalent methods to achieve an open-textured surface. Steel surfaces should be abrasive blasted to a white metal finish.

Mixing Instructions

Pre-mix each component separately before combining. Mix equal parts Component A and Component B thoroughly for approximately 3 minutes using a low-speed drill and mixing paddle until fully blended. Mix only the quantity that can be used within the product’s pot life.

Broadcast Overlay Application

Prime the prepared substrate with Sikadur®-22 Lo-Mod FS. While the primer remains tacky, apply mixed material using a notched squeegee and broadcast oven-dried aggregate into the epoxy binder until refusal. Remove excess aggregate after cure.

Epoxy Mortar Application

For epoxy mortar systems, blend mixed resin with oven-dried aggregate and apply while the primer coat remains tacky. Finish using a trowel or vibrating screed as required. Priming is mandatory for epoxy mortar installations.

Temperature Requirements

Minimum substrate and ambient temperature during application is 40°F (4°C). Concrete should generally be cured for 21–28 days prior to application depending on environmental conditions.
