Description

This heavy-duty sealant kit combines Tremco Vulkem® 116, a proven textured polyurethane sealant in a 20 oz sausage pack, with the high-performance AWF PRO 18:1 Sausage Caulk Gun—a dual-use applicator designed for professionals who demand power, precision, and efficiency on every job. Vulkem® 116 is a moisture-curing, single-component polyurethane sealant ideal for exterior construction joints in masonry, concrete, and precast panels. With excellent flexibility, UV resistance, and primerless adhesion to porous substrates, it's built to perform in demanding conditions. The AWF PRO gun makes dispensing effortless, even with high-viscosity sealants, thanks to its 18:1 thrust ratio and durable aluminum construction.

Recommended Applications

Ideal For: General-purpose sealing of dynamic joints in commercial construction

Typical Uses:

  • Precast and poured concrete joints
  • Window and door perimeters
  • Masonry joints
  • Wall panels and façade systems
  • Exterior vertical joints
  • Stucco or EIFS terminations (verify compatibility)

Exterior Use Only: Not for use indoors, even in unoccupied spaces

Common Substrates:

  • Concrete (poured/precast)
  • Brick and CMU block
  • Natural and cast stone
  • Wood (bare or painted with proper prep)
  • Metal (cleaned and primed if required)
  • Stucco and textured surfaces

Application Details

Surface Prep

  • Surfaces must be dry, clean, and sound
  • Use two-cloth cleaning method with xylene for non-porous substrates
  • Remove all contaminants, form release agents, and loosely bonded materials
  • Prime porous substrates if required using Vulkem® Primer #171
  • Prime non-porous substrates if required using TREMprime® Non-Porous Primer

Joint Design

  • Minimum joint size: ¼" wide by ¼" deep
  • Movement capability: ±25% of joint width
  • Use backer rod or bond breaker tape to control depth and prevent 3-point adhesion
  • Follow ASTM C1193 and ASTM C1472 for optimal joint design

Application

  • Use a professional-grade caulking gun
  • Fill joint from back to front to avoid air pockets
  • Tool sealant with rounded spatula to achieve concave profile and full contact with joint sides
  • Tool within 6 hours before skin forms
  • Dry tooling only – do not use water, soap, or lubricants

Curing

  • Tack-free in ~30 hours
  • Full cure time varies with temperature and humidity
  • Do not disturb sealant during curing
  • Adhesion may take up to 2+ weeks to fully develop – test for critical applications
