Description

This contractor-grade kit pairs 12 cartridges of Tremco Vulkem® 45SSL (29 oz) with the AWF PRO® 29 oz Caulking Gun, providing everything you need for high-performance horizontal joint sealing. Vulkem® 45SSL is a single-component, semi-self-leveling, moisture-curing polyurethane sealant designed for horizontal expansion joints. It applies easily to both flat and sloped surfaces (up to a 6% grade) without sagging or slumping. Engineered for durability, it is traffic-rated, UV-resistant, jet fuel resistant, and suitable for continuous immersion in non-chlorinated water—making it ideal for commercial and residential applications alike. Paired with the AWF PRO® 29 oz Caulking Gun, you get precision control and maximum efficiency. This heavy-duty gun features an 18:1 thrust ratio for smooth dispensing of thick polyurethane sealants, plus a rotating barrel for consistent application around curves and corners. Built to handle high volumes, it’s the perfect tool for professionals who demand quality and performance on every job.

Recommended Applications

Typical Uses

  • Expansion joints in sidewalks, plazas, and flatwork
  • Swimming pool decks and outdoor patios
  • Parking structures and pedestrian areas
  • Sloped surfaces up to 6% grade (1" per 16')

Compatible Substrates

  • Green, damp, or cured concrete
  • Masonry and CMU
  • Precast concrete panels
  • Brick, stone, and stucco
  • Metal (primed if necessary)
  • Other porous and non-porous materials (with proper prep)

Application Instructions

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure substrate is clean, dry or damp (not wet), and structurally sound.
  • Clean using the two-cloth method: wipe with xylene, then dry cloth.
  • Use Vulkem® Primer #171 for porous substrates if testing recommends.
  • Use TREMprime® Non-Porous Primer for metals and plastics if needed.

Joint Design

  • Minimum joint: ¼" x ¼" (6 mm x 6 mm)
  • Joints ½" to 1": depth should be ½ the width
  • Maximum joint depth: ½" (13 mm)
  • Use backer rod or bond breaker tape to avoid 3-point adhesion

Application

  • Apply with standard sausage or cartridge gun (AWF PRO 18:1 recommended)
  • Fill joint from back to front to prevent air entrapment
  • Tool within 2 hours to create a concave, water-shedding profile
  • Tool dry — do not use soap, water, or solvents

Curing

  • Sealant must remain undisturbed during curing process
  • Cure rate depends on humidity and temperature
  • Full adhesion may take up to 2+ weeks
