Recommended Applications

Ideal For: High-movement and high-performance sealant needs in commercial and industrial construction

Typical Uses:

  • Expansion and control joints
  • Precast panel joints
  • Curtain walls and window perimeters
  • Door frame seals
  • Rough openings and flashing transitions
  • Vertical façade joints
  • Air barrier and waterproofing terminations
  • Water-immersion environments

Compatible Substrates:

  • Concrete (green or cured)
  • Masonry and CMU
  • Aluminum (anodized or primed)
  • Vinyl siding
  • Wood (clean and dry)
  • Plastics and metals (with proper surface prep)
  • Nudura ICF systems

Application Details

Surface Preparation

  • Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or debris
  • Use two-cloth cleaning method: solvent wipe followed by dry cloth
  • Minimize contamination from skin oils, dust, or water
  • Use Vulkem® Primer #171 for porous substrates if needed
  • Use TREMprime® Non-Porous Primer for metals and plastics if required

Priming

  • Project-specific adhesion tests recommended
  • Prime only if required based on substrate and adhesion testing
  • Seal within 6–8 hours (non-porous) or 8 hours (porous) of priming

Joint Design

  • Minimum joint: ¼" x ¼"
  • For joints ½"–1" wide, depth should be half the width
  • Use backer rod or bond-breaker tape to prevent 3-point adhesion
  • Follow ASTM C1193 & C1472 joint design standards

Application

  • Use standard or sausage caulking guns
  • Apply from back of joint forward to avoid air pockets
  • Tool immediately using dry tooling – no water, soap, or lubricants
  • Do not disturb sealant during cure phase

Curing

  • Skin forms in 2–3 hours
  • Tack-free in 6–8 hours
  • Full cure time depends on joint size, humidity, and temperature
  • Allow 2+ weeks for full adhesion development in critical applications
